The Ceylon Cat Snake (Boiga ceylonesis)

The Ceylon cat snake grows to about 1250 mm in length. The dorsal aspect of Ceylon cat snake is grayish brown with a series of dark brown markings. There are irregular dark brown markings on the head. A dark brown streak runs behind the eye across the check.
 The Ceylon Cat snake is a nocturnal arboreal snake. This is a common snake which can be frequently encountered with inside houses at night or day, coiled and resting in dark corners among fire wood, boxes, drawers , and inside store rooms. The Ceylon cat is widely distributed in the wet zone up to 1000m above sea level.

Ceylon cat snake feeds on geckos, skinks, agamids, birds and mice. It is an oviparous snake producing 5 to 15 eggs. When disturbed it vibrates its tail. When concerned it raises its fore body and forms into sinuous curves. it lashes out and bites at this position.

Boiga ceylonesis is  a mildly venomous snake. Its bite causes mild local symptoms that subside in a few minutes about the Ceylon Cat snake is that it is highly venomous snake. Another is they come to houses in group of seven.

Identification
1) The sub ovate head with a distinct neck.
2) Large eyes with vertical pupils like in cats, that why it is called cat snake.
3)  The long , slender and compressed body. The long , cylindrical and tapering tail.
